Joopita History

Projects, Copyrights & Licenses

The WobbleWolf Project (2000-2006)

The WobbleWolf started as a personal project / label launched by Jos Kirps in 1998. Under this label, the OLEFA CMS and the StagWards 3D animated movie were created.
The label was mostly retired in 2003, after the StagWards project had been completed and the OLEFA project had been licensed to EducDesign SA. It was finally replaced by (or renamed to) the Joopita Project in 2006.

StagWards (1998-2002)

Stag Wards is a 3D animated movie created from 1998-2002. While the project ended in 2002, its figures were later reused as OLEFAbots in the OLEFA / OLEFA Storyboard projects, and they also served as inspiration for the later Oli / Morzino Logo.

OLEFA (2000)

OLEFA is a Content Management System (CMS) created in 2000. In 2001, the software was extended by collaboration and library management tools, which made it a perfect tool for school websites. It was licensed to EducDesign SA in 2002. We are no longer involved in the project, but the logo as well as the domain olefa.com are still owned by Jos Kirps, and many original ideas served as inspiration for the later CorneliOS, CIOS and ONO projects.

The Joopita Project (2006-today)

Joopita (2006-2011)

Joopita started as a personal project / label launched by Jos Kirps in 2006. Under this label, the CorneliOS and CIOS software projects as well as the Galaxiki and Oli / Morzino platforms were created.

CorneliOS (2006)

CorneliOS was an Open Source "Web OS". While the project itself has ended, its backend became the basis for the Galaxiki and Oli / Morzino platforms, and most CorneliOS code is now part of the Open Source ONO Perl Framework.

Galaxiki & CIOS (2007)

Galaxiki was a used-editable website created for amateur sci-fi writers.
CIOS was a framework based on CorneliOS, serving as backend for Galaxiki. Mst CIOS code is now part of the Open Source ONO Perl Framework.

Oli / Morzino (2008)

Oli / Morzino was an educational platform based on the CorneliOS and CIOS backends. Oli.lu quickly became a successful educational resource in Luxembourg, Europe.

Joopita Research ASBL (2011-2022)

As Galaxiki and Oli.lu had become quite successful non-profit platforms, it was decided to create a non-profit organization that would manage those projects.
When the ASBL was dissolved in 2022, it was decided to release all software created by the organisation as Open Source software.

Oli / Morzino & Galaxiki (2008-2022)

Development of the Oli / Morzino and Galaxiki projects continued under the Joopita Research ASBL label. In 2015, Joopita Research ASBL licensed the Oli / Morzino technology to the Ministry of Education in Luxembourg.

CorneliOS / CIOS / ONO

Development of the CorneliOS / CIOS projects continued under the Joopita Research ASBL label. The ONO (a recursive acronym for "ONO's Not OLEFA") project was started to unify the CorneliOS and CIOS codebases.

Joopita / The Joopita Project (2022-2026)

The Joopita Project continued offering basic educational tools and platforms, while mainly focusing on the development of the ONO Perl Framework, that now includes almost all software ever created under the Joopita label, with a total of more than 400,000 lines of code.
During this phase, the main focus of the project was to clean up, improve, document and (if necessary) replace/recreate all software created during the past 20 years, and to make it available to the public as Open Source software. This also required to align all copyrights, which now allows to offer all software as one single free package.

Morzino (2022-2026)

The Joopita Project continued offering e-learning applications, an online picture dictionary to selected users, based on the Open Source ONO software. The Virtual Classroom and School Web Manager tools were retired as front end applications (although still available on oli.education.lu).
The Morzino label has been retired in mid 2026.

ONO Perl Framework (2022-today)

All CorneliOS and CIOS modules, as well as large parts of the Morzino project codebase, are now part of the the ONO Perl Framework, which is being released as Open Source software step by step. First parts were released in 2024, and in mid 2026, more than 1/3 of all code had been made available to the public.

The Joopita Project [ASBL] (2026-today)

The non-profit organisation "The Joopita Project" was founded in 2026, in order to manage and distribute the ONO Perl Framework in future. Furthermore, the organisation shall make some of the created tools available via online platforms.

ONO Perl Framework (-today)

The ONO Perl Framework now includes almost all software ever created under the Joopita label, and it is being made available under the Artistic 2.0 Open Source license.

Morzoo / Oli (2026-today)

As not all Morzino copyrights were available to the project, educational tools are now being made available via the Morzoo platform, and future educational solutions will be made available under the Morzoo label.
Morzoo is entirely based on the ONO Perl Framework.
